"Therapy should not be theory driven, but relationship driven" - Irvin Yalom

About Me
At the heart of any therapeutic process is the relationship between the counsellor & client.

Therefore, to help you decide if I am the right counsellor for you, I think it is important I tell you about myself and what makes me qualified to help you.

My Story
I have always had an interest in people, hearing their stories, what makes them "tick" and how their experience has shaped who they are as a person. This interest developed and lead me to study A-Level Psychology and further develop my understanding of psychological theories.
Following on from A-Levels, I didn't pursue a career in counselling or psychology, instead I started a career in Finance. It wasn't until I had ill meant health and sought support, that my passion for counselling was reignited.

Soon after, I enrolled on a counselling course at Halesowen College, where I studied for 4 years, completing the written element of the course in 2019, followed by the mandatory 100 hours of practical client work in 2020. I was awarded a Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in July 2020.

Throughout my four years of study, I gained knowledge and experience in working many counselling approaches, learning to work ethically with client safety at the heart of everything I do. I am now registered with The British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and work carefully within their ethical guidelines.

After learning about the multiple theories in counselling, the theory aligns most to my beliefs and values are the Humanistic approaches to counselling.

Humanistic approaches look at you as a whole, not as a symptom or problem to be fixed but rather as an individual who has the potential to grow and heal. This approach is not analytical, there are no diagnosis or directional instructions, it is simply a safe space for you, to be you, without judgement.

I pride myself on being genuine with clients and working empathically, learning what the world looks like from your perspective, walking alongside you on your journey to understand your frame of reference and how things feel to you. I do this with patience and understanding; there are no rights or wrongs, just you & I exploring your world.

Confidentiality is key in counselling, our conversations are private and remain so unless there is a risk of harm.
